An Explanation May Be Neccessary

For all those that don't know the story behind why we call our baby "The Duke"...this post is for you.

It all started with Brig and I making up funny names for our future children.

We told my parents that if we had twins (a girl and boy) we would name the girl Kara, and the boy Beaner...because we could call them "Carabiner"

The other name that we came up with was for our first born son. We wanted to name him after both my dad and Brig's dad.

If you put the two together...
Gregory Jon + Wayne

You get this guy...

Who has the nickname of Duke. [And by the way, he was born on May 26th...just like me.]

So naturally when we told my mom our awesome idea she said that she would just call him "Little Duke."

Now, when we found out that we were having a baby we wanted to come up with a clever way to tell both families... just for fun.

We gave Papa Wayne a "late birthday-early Father's Day" present.

For my family we came up with this clever idea to put a picture of my ultrasound on the top of the toilet seat lid in my parents' bathroom and leave it up. My mom doesn't like it when you leave the lid up so we thought it would be the perfect mode of surprise...

She'd walk into her bathroom, notice the lid was up, go put it down and SURPRISE... there would be the picture.

It almost worked perfectly, but because my mom had recently told my dad that she hates this, when he saw the lid was up, he put it down... although it wasn't my mom, it was still a good surprise, and still effective.

The best part was that instead of just putting a random ultrasound picture on their toilet lid we spruced it up a bit.

The picture we used was of the baby's face and his hand was up by the side of his head. We printed off a little cowboy hat and pistol and pasted them on. Then we wrote: The "Duke" (or "Dukette") above the picture.

*PICTURES COMING SOON* (Hopefully)

So ever since then my family has called our baby the Duke. They called him this before we even knew he was a boy.

They decided that if the baby had been a girl they would have called her the Duchess... but that wasn't necessary.

And there is the awesome story behind why we call our baby "The Duke."

I am so glad you explained that. I have been wondering. In my family duke is unfortunately....a... for lack of better way of saying this.... poo. SO I am glad that Duke is just a joke and not the real name for him. :)

No matter what his name -- I may still call him Duke :) After all, every child needs a nick-name, just ask Bob.

What a fun story! You guys will be cute parents.

You should definitely go huckleberry picking! We had a ton of fun, and the berries are delicious. There were a lot that were just not quite ready to be picked yet, so I bet they'd be perfect now!
